Rosie– Exercise Prescription
22/11/23
Recently had stifle injected RHS. Previously has pattern of compensation on the right hindlimb to left
shoulder consistent with muscular imbalance leading up to stifle injections. When ridden owner can
feel imbalance between hindlimb pushing ability and feeling of “choppy” gait in the forelimbs. Main
aims will be for Rosie to return to work and focus more on her flatwork oppose to jumping to
promote soundness and balance. Tack checked and jumping saddle is in better balance, dressage
saddle is becoming slightly tigher along the lumbar area on both sides.
Gait assessment – Good overtrack in walk straight moving with bilaterally lateral circumduction of
forelimbs. Right forelimb is more toe in. In walk initially looked asymmetrical in the pelvic rise and
fall with the right hindlimb appearing weaker with less weight bearing (very marginal). Following
treatment even pelvic movement was observed.
Palpation - Reduced bilateral neck mobility C3 and C4 right. Serratus ventralis showing tension
drawing shoulders towards to the body bilaterally. Restricted mildly in forelimb protraction and
reluctant to droop shoulders forward and down. Did ease. Spinal range of motion reduced in dorsiflexion. Lumbar region hypertonic and spasming more on the right. Gluteal musclulature weak and
require more bulk. Right hand side brachiocephalic muscle spasming and tense.
