Jax
19/10/23
Jax was seen for physiotherapy on 19/10/23 to address some muscular pain
and to improve hindlimb function. He has improved since my last visit
and is showing good functional movement.
Subjective
Jax has shown some difficulties with rising and is losing strength in
his back legs – he was able to maintain a good sit posture and do
repetitions of sit to stand 10x – after which the sitting quality
declined. On rising there is less limb trembling and more strength.
Objective
Jax settled into treatment well. Shoulder strain is reduced and there
are some good improvements to Jaxs’ back legs in terms of balance. The
Left shoulder was weaker and the right stifle was guarded slightly.
Bilaterally hindlimb protraction was reduced and semitendinosus was
hypertonic. Reduced spinal flexion and rounding, with some muscular
tension and spasming.
Plan and Exercises
- To address muscle imbalance in the hindlimbs, Jax should do 10 sit to
stands per day, the sits MUST be square as pictured overleaf. This
will build up hind muscles and also keep strength for rising from the
floor. Also add in down to sit to work shoulders 10x
- Nose stretches – Guide the nose to each hip 5x and try to hold –
remember hands not too high and to lock the nose on the treat then
move slowly.
- Over the legs when sat on the floor – 10x over. In walk and slowly,
ensure both legs go over a human leg !
