Alfie
19/10/23
Alfie was seen for physiotherapy on 19/10/23 for a check up. He has
recently started lessons and requires some muscle building.
Subjective
Alfie is a gentle horse and has spent his summer living out and hacking,
currently does 1 schooling lesson per week and Owner looking to improve
muscle and overall health. Some issues on the right rein and with
counter canter were noted.
Objective
Alfie is a slight build and is a long horse, he requires more topline
and core engagement to hold himself together. In walk the left pelvic
limb rotates on stance phase and Alfie moves base narrow. In the
forelimbs Alfie is slightly toe in and narrow. This gait improves in
trot with a wider base stance. Head was held to the left. Turning was
good with good balance, placement, timing. Back up good strides shown.
Needs muscle over gluteals and hamstrings. Left lumbar region spasming
and k-tape applied. Neck C4-6 restricted. Left TMJ sore on palpation
(teeth sue) and check bridle buckles. Serratus muscle bilaterally
hypertonic, shows more core development is needed.
Plan and Exercises
- To aid muscle mass, lots of transitions should be used when hacking or
schooling. Attached are some plans to do with Alfie to help.
