Rebel – Exercise Prescription
21/08/23
Rebel overall looked to be sound in his movement but was uncomfortable to begin when ridden,
showing a toe first foot landing on his front feet and a short and stilted movement in walk and trot
and breaking in the canter on the left rein. During physiotherapy, tension was found in the jaw
and cheeks on both sides of Rebels face and extended down his neck into his shoulders. There was
scarring on the right triceps muscle and some mild spasms in Rebels back. His bridle and bit looked
to be a good fit and no problems tacking up were seen. Following treatment, Rebel was ridden
again and was more willing, went into corners and reached forward to go over poles with ease.
Keep in walk/trot to increase confidence. – Aim to revisit in 1 month and add canter work.
Leg lift and out
Pick up the right forelimb (rebels right) and extend the leg out to the side, support
the knee with your right hand and his fetlock with your left, this will open up space
between his leg and chest. Then extend the leg out.
