Devious Seton-Jones
6/06/23
Subjective:
- Recently had extensive period of box rest (EMS/Laminitis), hoping to
start some light ridden sessions in the near future.
Para-Professionals
- Devious is progressing well with the farrier – he is happy with his
feet
- Recently had saddle fitter. Videos of the saddles show that with the
new saddle devious is restricted in his scapula elevation and travels
on three tracks (quarters left). Since beginning ridden work with this
saddle again he has shown atypical stable behaviour and saddle
aversions.
- Dentist up to date
Gait assessment –
- Looking more comfortable with turning and is keeping rhythm through
the turns now.
- Lowered and extended head and neck posture in walk, tracks up, toe out
left hindlimb and increased tuber coxae excursion right hand side.
Reduced flexion (Stifle/Tarsus) on right hind-limb.
- Circling – some loss of rhythm and reluctance to move hindlimbs
(right) increased weight bearing on hindlimbs.
- Back up good foot flight, rhythm and placement
Palpation –
- Brachiocephalic hypertonic at origin and insertion, trigger points nad
reactive.
- Serratus hypertonic and reactive – restricting shoulder glide
- Trapezius reactive mildly
- Longissimus reactive with trigger points, spasming and fasiculations
more right lumbar region and into thoraco-lumbar fascia, mild on left
side.
Range of motion –
- Reduced cervical range of motion – improved since last session still
reluctant C3-5 to the left.
- Forelimb retraction restricted due to brachiocephalic tone
- Spinal range of motion good in dorsi-flexion, pelvic flexion good
(mildly resented), pelvic rotation good.
- Hindlimb range of motion good – protraction, retraction,
adduction/abduction.
