Physiotherapist report – Calvin Palmer
March 2023
Subjective: Calvin was asked to be seen for physiotherapy by his owner as part of a maintenance
check to address any compensatory issues resulting from his altered weight distribution due to
issues with lesions on his paw.
Gait: Calvin showed marked reduced weight bearing on his right forelimb and occasionally would be
non-weight bearing. Sitting posture was good and straight, in stance there was a straight and even
posture. Trot and other gaits were not assessed.
Objective: Hair loss and lesions were seen on the right dorsum, Cal would occasionally lick these.
Related to cysts that Mr Palmer was aware of and seeking veterinary advice.
Due to the weight shifting Cal had muscle hypertrophy and compensations of the left forelimb
triceps, lattissimus dorsi and pectorals.
Range of motion: Forelimb range of motion was good, restricted protraction due to muscular
tension in the triceps on the left forelimb, joint range of motion was good. Hind-limb range of
motion in joints was good.
Action:
Exercise regime discussed and implemented, walking also to be monitored for any
changes and adjusted accordingly. Laser was used alongside massage and stretching
to help alleviate muscular tension and address findings. Over the course of 3
sessions, this was improved and Cal is walking back to his normal amount.
