Physiotherapist report – Joker
Feb 2023
Subjective: Joker was seen 11.2.23 as he was having trouble with flexion
and bending. He has access to turnout and is a nervous but gentle
gelding who has previously excelled in in-hand showing. Regularly
attends pole clinics and is broken to ride.
Gait: Right pelvic drop on the right, less excursion of the left hip.
Gluteal mass was even and back was straight on static observation. Limbs
all travel straight and hoof landings are good. Tracks up in walk and
trot. Reluctance on the turn and circles right and left showed that the
right turn was more fluid with good rhythm and impulsion, left was
slower and on occasion will not cross hindlimbs.
Objective: Tension and restriction in the head and jaw. Temporalis
muscles were even and showed no difficulties eating. Right supra-orbital
fat pad was displaced more showing tension on the right side. Facial
crest non-painful and some tension and resistance in masseter
bilaterally. Initially unable to move mandible of the maxilla either
direction. Released fascia and TMJ. Poll area and ears good but disliked
them being touched, fat deposit on nuchal crest – advised re bridle fit
and padding to remove pressure from this. Neck was good, , tight fascia
left side. Bilateral triceps spasming and extending into pectorals. Mild
epaxials tension bilaterally. Mild crepitus bilaterally hind fetlocks.
Range of Motion: Back range of motion was good with nice pelvic
rounding. Forelimb protraction limited due to muscle spasming.
