Duke – Exercise Prescription
28/11/22
Duke has improved vastly from the previous session, he routinely
struggles with stiffness and did still show some restrictions in the
hind fetlocks and hocks, the protraction of his left hind limb was
shorter than the right and also in the hindend his gluteal muscles could
do with more flexion and rounding. The restrictions and spasming in the
back legs has improved.
Dukes forelimbs were still resistant to stretch forwards but once
released felt improved and I am happy with how he is developing. There
is less spasming and pain in his lower back and around his hip which was
previously noted and a watch will be here to keep it at bay.
Temporalis muscles and masseter were restricted right hand side, bridle
changes showed an improvement in fit. Teeth may need attention soon.
To improve with his dressage and ridden career, a tail bandage and
roller can be used for 10 minute intervals to improve the hind
engagement. Still work on poles as the front end needs to also develop
in line with the back legs before they can begin to carry more weight.
Some cantering and jumping exercises are below to help with abdominal
engagement and bend/flexion to make Duke more even both ways!
