Merlin - Physiotherapy Assessment and
Exercises
7/8/25
Merlin was seen today for physio, he has been stiff and a little reluctant. His toes and feet
look a little long and may be due for trimming. He is a good weight and has recently been
doing some more athletic work. Has been coming behind the vertical when ridden.
Gait: Straight moving, increased pelvic drop on the right indicating a left hindlimb
restriction. His gait was laboured in walk and trot with some reluctance on the turns, a
tendancy to shrten the stride on the turn and lack push under the midline. Shortened stride
length globally.
Palpation:.. Considerable poll tension with large releases seen, initially flexion and extension
of the poll was restricted, this improved following massage and myofascial release. Neck
restricted bilaterally, more so to the right. C2-5 was restricted. Flexion laterally was difficult
with muscular tension. Base of the neck carrying tension and preventing correct use of the
splenius muscles in the neck. Some lumbar spasming and tension, responded well to red
light here.
Aim:
Maintain Straightness
Develop back muscle on right hand side
Reduce inner thigh tension
