Dixie – Physiotherapy – Follow up
Dixie was presented following a diagnosis for suspensory branch disease in her hindlimbs.
She has been out in the field and still has remedial shoes for support. She has been
carrying out remedial exercise for the past 3 months to aid with her recovery.
Gait assessment: In walk, good rhythm and weight distribution. Fetlock drop looks to be
lighter than previously and the stride length has improved. Dixie is still reluctant on the turn
and is delayed with her left hindlimb. On a gradient she does alter speed and increase strain
through her hindlimbs. It is recommended to keep on flatter surfaces if possible.
On palpation: there was mild spasming and trigger points more so on the left side of the
epaxials. Left hamstring was resistant to protraction and retraction was also limited. Range
of motion of the neck was limited bilaterally C3-5. Mild crepitus in both hindlimb fetlocks.
Swellings again seen on her hindlimbs and toe out on the left hindlimb.
