Archie – Exercise Prescription and Notes
15-12-25
Subjective: Archie was seen following recommendation from Morgan M the trainer to
assess Archies head and poll. He is showing reluctance to be tacked up and bridled. Archie is
young and starting out his ridden career and training. He is barefoot with good feet and foot
balance. Up to date with saddle and teeth.
Gait: Straight overall. Short in flight arc and stride length with the hindlimbs more so the
right hindlimb. Reluctant to trot with head carried high and lacking impulsion from the
hindlimbs.
Main palpation findings Tension in brachiocephalicus muscle in the neck at the poll and at
the base of the neck bilaterally. Scarring/adhesion on the sternum 3 inches long craniocaudal direction. Right trapezius hypertonic, lumbar spasming and trigger points, bilaterally
restricted hamstring mobility. TMJ reactive on left side – jaw is restricted.
Range of motion: Neck bend left is stilted in the mid cervical region. Head held high when
bending right. Spinal range of motion good, a little limited in mid lumbar. Pelvic tilts good.
Overall: Recommend blood test/Vet if issues do not resolve especially moving forwards.
Bridle could be altered as noseband is low and buckles are sat on the TMJ. Head tension is
caused by stress or elevated head posture. Try to feed from the ground to disengage
underside of the neck as this is causing bracing.
