Patient Name: Ruby

Ruby initially was seen following a left hindlimb lameness which she has slowly recovered
from, she is now at a good level of functional turning, strength and muscle mass in both
hindlimbs. However, on two occasions Ruby has vocalised without cause. Metacam has
been prescribed but Owner reports that the incidents are continuing.
Subjective
•

During routine walking, no scuffing, dragging – nail wear is normal
In sit, able to flex hindlimbs and rise correctly
Tight turning each way is unrestricted
Objective: Gait assessment shows Ruby externally rotates her hindlimbs and can have a
wide base stance with a rounded back.

Physical Examination Findings:
o Left hind-limb shows hesitation to bear weight but on occasion and when
lifting limbs the left does hold more weight than previous
o

Range of Motion (ROM):
o Forelimbs: resented forelimb protraction left forelimb especially
o Neck: Good in all directions
o Back: Restricted in thoracic dorsi-flexion
