Initial Consult – Alfie
Alfie had his initial session following a diagnosis of hip dysplasia more so on his right side
and inflammation in his back. He is currently a good body score, owners are looking to
reduce this slightly.
Gait Analysis: Able to locomote around with no assistance. Forelimbs are placed well but
have a bilaterally shortened stride length and flight arc. The hindlimbs are wide and stilted
with reduced flexion of the hip and stifle.
Muscular Evaluation: Hypertonic shoulder musculature was seen (mild). Latissimus dorsi
restricting forelimb protraction (mild). Trigger points seen in lumbar region bilaterally. Lack
of biceps femoris and hamstrings more on the right side. Hip extension limited on the right.
Functional Evaluation: Sit quality is good and square. Rising shows good utilisation of both
hindlimbs albeit a little wide.
Plan: Work to strengthen right hindlimb musculature and reduced back spasming and
trigger points.
