Shaun - Physiotherapy Assessment and
Exercises
13.1.26
Shaun is an active and athletic horse who enjoys all round activities. His canter leads have
improved and he has had some difficulty doing the bending exercises prescribed.
Gait: Straight moving, stilted through the back and forelimbs with reduced stride length of the left
hindlimb. Stilted in trot but has even pelvic drop, cranially pulling on the right tuber coxae.
Palpation: Mildly reactive to the lower neck and brachiocephalicus. Improved from the last visit. Left
trapezius is reactive and restricting shoulder mobility, similar but more mild on the right. Left side of
the back is braced and spasming/reactive, this is extensive and is carried from the hip to the
shoulder, again mirrored on the right. Focal points are in the lumbar area T16-18. Left hindlimb
retraction is limited by the stifle and hip.
Other: Owner reports some issues ridden, both saddles were checked. The Jump saddle was good
contact over the shoulders but sat very high off the wither, slipped right and had a slight lump mid
way on the left panel. The GP was tilted backwards and slips left. Saddle fitter check advised to
assist.
