Re: Bailey – Physiotherapy Notes - 1/12/25
Subjective
Bailey was seen due to having issues with his right bend. This was apparent under saddle
and also in the stable. Shoes are due and feet were long in places. Starting to step ridden
work up now as he develops.
Static & Dynamic Observations:
•
•
Static conformation is good, straight forelimbs and hindlimbs, slightly straight legged
behind and toe in LF. Straight back and slightly extended pelvic angle.
When walking the right hindlimb was 1 hoof shorter than the left in protraction and
both hock/stifle joints looked to have reduced flexion – this will limit hindlimb
impulsion.
Palpation Findings:
•
•
•
•
•
Restricted right hindlimb when stepping/stretching forward
Lumbar tension and spasming (mild)
Reluctance to lift back – only achieved mild thoracic lift
Right neck bend is restricted C2-5 – naturally holds head in elevation and restricts
mobility. When moving right bailey moves his body weight over the left forelimb and
twists.
Limited shoulder extension
Overall: The reluctance to right bend is most likely coming from the right hindlimb, the
immobility of the back to flex and also laterally bend and some instability and lack of
strength to alter balance. First work on lowering the head and allowing the back to come up,
if able. Carrot stretches will help with this too, then work on transitions keeping the balance
before impulsion later.
