Re: Ellie – Physiotherapy Notes
13/11/25
Subjective
Ellie is of a good body condition score and is a lean fit horse. She is shod and
feet are well balanced. She has had a recent injury to her LF on the dorsal
aspect. This is healed but is causing some mild lameness.
Static & Dynamic Observations:
•
•
Dynamic assessment showed narrow hindlimb movement with external
rotation, forelimb motion was straight and Ellie had good rhythm and
turning.
Neck bracing – more on the right side when turning
Palpation Findings:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Restricted neck mobility mid cervical C3-4. More so to the right
Left latissimus dorsi reactivity
Bilateral lumbar sensitivity and spasming
Gluteal taught bands bilaterally
Initially restricted pelvic mobility and lift, improved
Right hindlimb still restricted in protraction
Recommendations:
•
Observe the swelling on the pastern and any heat in this foot, Ellie does
itch at this so may disturb the scabs. Laser was applied to aid healing.
•
•
Neck carrot stretches are needed to improve neck mobility and prevent
twisting at the poll.
Hindlimb engagement is still looking lacking, especially going into trot.
Care to be taken to strengthen the hindlimbs to protect against
increased toe out posture.
