Pixie
12.11.25
Pixie was seen following a period of head tossing/rein pulling when ridden. She has displayed this
mostly in the arena. She has a history of poorer dentition and otherwise is in good health. Body
weight and score is good, ribs palpable easily.
Gait assessment –Travelled straight through the spine, forelimbs show some lateral circumduction,
hindlimbs have exaggerated elevation and reduced protraction. Posture shows weak and
underdeveloped back but this has improved since last seen.
Palpation –Left base of brachiocephalicus reactive, biceps brachii reactive, forelimb retraction
reduced, hindlimb protraction reduced. Hip mobility reduced when travelling medially. Bilateral
lumbar tension and spasming. Right side masseter hypertonic and TMJ/Jaw overused this side.
Restricted c3-5 neck flexion, right. Limited head extension and flexion and jaw mobility.
Overall: Tension is seen on the left side from the jaw to the hindlimb. There is evidence of eating
more on the right side and having limited jaw mobility, this combined with limited head flexin and
extension may lead to rein snatching as the left hindlimb is reluctant to adduct under the body and
come forwards, this leads to increased tension in the back and uneven pressure on the left/right
sides.
