Spirit
15/10/25
Spirit is an ex-riding school horse and is enjoying his life as a sole
owned horse. He is doing well in all disciplines and was seen for
maintenance. His weight is good, he is carrying a little excess over the
stomach, h=but his overall stature and build is showing a reduced amount
of muscle mass and strength which could be improved. His sadle was
checked and is slipping right and is narrow on his withers. It has good
balance and bearing though.
Gait Assessment: Some right hind stiffness and evidence of
mallanders/mites which can contribute to soreness. Rhythmical and even
walk and trot with good fot placement. His right forelimb is toe in and
restricted which may indicate some arthritic changes here. The foot
could be balanced better as he is due for his trim and with the bruising
on the lateral wall and patches of chipped or cracked hoof could also
cause unbalanced steps to be taken.
Palpation: Good neck mobility left, a little restricted to the right,
shoulders are low tone and bulk, back is lacking in topline and more
core engagement is needed to lift the back and promote good back
strength, the lack of ability to do this may be caused by the pinching
saddle.
All muscles and mobility is good, his left hind was restricted coming
forwards due to old scar injury. This was aided with ultrasound to help
break up some scar tissue and aid mobility.
