Physiotherapist report – Stanley
July 2022
Subjective
Owners have been able to source carpets to put across wooden floors throughout to aid with Stanley's
mobility and prevent slips/falls. Discussed walk routines and shorter 15 min walks spread through the day 2/3x
are more beneficial. Encouraged lots of sniffing and surfaces for proprioceptive enhancement. On 2x
gabapentin and yumove.
Objective
Moves with a pacing gait, forelimbs look hypermetric and stilted at all gaits. Hind-limbs are flexed and have
reduced stride length and protraction. Off loading left forelimb. Spinal mobility is limited in lateral and dorsiflexion.
Assessment
Left elbow has pronounced crepitus at full flexion, carpus and shoulder range of motion is good. Protraction
restricted, muscular guarding and spasming in latissimus dorsi and triceps brachii long head. Spinal epaxial
muscles are hypertonic with restricted fascia and reduced spinal lateral flexion and dorsiflexion. Left carpus
has slight valgus positioning.
Hindlimbs are hypotrophic and hypotonic bilaterally with reduced biceps femoris bulk and increased tone of
medial though muscles owing to close movement behind.
Plan
Massage, trigger point release, joint range of motion, LASER, exercise prescription and stretches carried out.
Kinesiotape was applied to support the left elbow.
Notes for Veterinarian
Referred Stanley to assess elbow pain and mobility – suggested a consultation regarding analgesia for this or
further assessment is required.
