Kevin- Physiotherapy Notes – 28/8/25
Kevin was seen for his initial appointment. He is active and bright in
demeanour. His weight is good and diet controls are in place to adjust for
lowered exercise tolerance. Area he is allowed access too is majority nonslip. No access to stairs or jumping up if possible to limit spinal extension and
risk of falling/losing back foot contact. No pain relief currently taken –
advised he may need some to aid with adjustment of posture and to cope
with exercise until the muscles strength increases.
Gait: Kevin has a good rhythmical gait with good foot placement – his ground
clearance is limited in the hindlimbs and especially the left hindlimb which
often is placed medially. Slight cranial loading patterns displayed. Some
crossing and medial rotation of the left forelimb digits and claws.
Posture: Cranially loading and more onto the right hindlimb too. Occassional
knuckling is seen with the hindlimbs. Roached spinal posture and occasional
stumbling. Able to stand unassisted and take a few steps forwards. Sit posture
is very good. Spinal deviation to the right mild.
Palpation: Spinal epaxials tender thoraco-= lumbar region showing trigger
points more on the left. , resolved with manual therapy and Laser. Caudal
boarder latissimus dorsi reactive, but resolved. Left forelimb reluctant to
protract. No obvious issues with joint restrictions. Multifidus and spinal
stabilisers are weak, lacking hindlimb tone and bulk.
Neurological tests: Paw replacement – 1 second each hindlimb, cranial nerves
all ok
Aim: Improve overall balance, muscle strength and protect the opposing
limbs.
