Sprite
3/7/25
Sprite was seen today for a follow up appointmen. His feet were in good balance and
recently shod with heart bar shoes on the forelimbs for navicular support. The hindlimbs
also had good amount of support. Sprite has been enjoying short sessions of long reining
down the lane and is doing well with this.
Gait assessment – Walk: Showing lameness today in the right forelimb and this is
exacerbated in the field and on the turns or uneven ground. The left hindlimb was also
showing reduced flexion in walk and undertracking by 1 hoof length intermittently.
Trot:N/A
Turn: Wide turns were used as we know that these are difficult for Sprite.
Palpation –bilateral neck tension in the brachiocephalicus muscle and extending on the
right side to the triceps and trapezius. Longissimus was improved today as was gluteal
tension and spasming. Hindlimb retraction has improved – more coul be utilised. Forelimb
protraction better right forelimb a little resistant left forelimb.

Do these in the long reins to try to
combat the head twisting, this keeps
the neck supple. Aim for 5-10 steps
one way then flex the other.
