Silver
Silver was seen for her follow up today She has recently been to the vets for a lameness
work-up, nerve blocks and medication relating to bilateral hock arthritis. She is progressing
well with her advised exercise plan.
Gait assessment – Walk: Tracking up bilaterally, even pelvic excursion bilaterally. Straigth
limb movement with the hindlimbs, a little close. Limited tarsal flexion initially. Left forelimb
is showing metacarpophalangeal joint valgus and toe out. Increased metatarsophalangeal
drop left hindlimb indicating increased weight bearing on the left hindlimb, this was seen
bilaterally.
Trot:Trotting was fluid and forward. No toe dragging seen today from the hindlimbs,
bilaterally increased metatarsophalangeal drop showing signs of over exerction here.
Turn: Turning showed good hindlimb proprioception, placement, and foot height. Timing
was good. Neck looked stiff during turning, better to the left.
Ridden, fluid in all paces, elevated head carriage and tension creeping in. Hollows through
back and extends hindlimbs.:
Palpation –Increased tension in thoracolumbar fascia, Trigger points extending into lumbar
area. Spine in extension and bracedNeck lateral movement poor both directions but worse
right side. C3-5 restricted most. Hygroma on the cranial aspect of the left fetlockTopline
requires work
Spinal range of motion is improving.
Foot balance is showing increased wear of the left hindlimb lateral wall. Farrier due and vet
advised remedial shoes/pads.
