Physiotherapist report – Chance Hayes
Nov 2021
Subjective: Chance was initially seen for a diagnosis of Hip Dysplasia, as time has progressed Chance has
gradually lost the use of his hind-limbs which may be due to another chronic pathology. This change has
occurred within the past 4/5 months. Chance did go for regular hydrotherapy which was maintaining him but
he fatigued very quickly and owner circumstances changed. I have suggested water treadmill may be more
appropriate for gait re-education, yet this may alter back to pool as Chances’ hip ROM is significantly reduced
and may impact his ability to fully function on the treadmill.
Gait: Chance regularly uses a cart which we have adapted to support him better at the front and also to allow
the movement he does still have to continue when travelling in the cart. He has a cranial loading pattern and
his LH is usually the stronger limb. Reduced Protraction and reduced Hip extension with crepitus and hard end
feel.
Objective: Epaxial pain, spasming and trigger points bilaterally. Reduced ROM right carpal, slight crepitus,
Bilateral shoulder hypertrophy and hypertonicity, cervical hypertonicity.Prominant lumbar DSPs, biceps brachii
and pectorals hypertonic, biceps brachii, semimembranosus and semitendinosus hypotrophic and hypotonic.
Range of motion: Good spinal ROM and lateral movement, tarsal hyperextension, reduced hip adduction and
extension.
Action: Current action has surrounded wound repair so we can refer Chance to hydrotherapy once again.
LASER, massage, ROM, rhythmical stabilisations.
