Pixie
Subjective: Pixie was seen following a reaction to her strangles vaxcination which led to a period of
instability and tracking left with her quarters. She is doing well on NSAIDs and is locomoting
normally. She continues to be in good work and includes hacking/flatwork with some poles.
Gait: Walk shows right forelimb is mildly rotated and Pixie shows high-low feet pattern. Straight and
purposeful in walk with even pelvic mobility. Hypermetria and slight goose-step action observed in
the hindlimbs showing a mechanical lameness/myopathy of the semitendinosus muscle. Shortened
stride with the hindlimbs. In trot this is exaggerated slightly. Shorter stepping on the left stifle on the
turns – improved following the session.
Objective: Bilaterally neck is braced and restricted. Right caudal shoulder and serratus is reactive
and showing spasming. Bilaterall lumbar trigger points, bilateral restriction in hindlimb protraction
and adduction (more on left). Lacking gluteal muscle linked to hip extension.
Assessment:
No stifle oedema following reactive episode
Restricted neck mobility
Restricted hindlimb protraction
High-low in forelimbs – impacts shoulder stability and motion
