Physiotherapy Consult – Joey

Joey was referred due to Proprioceptive deficit in his hindlimbs. He was rescued in August
2024. He is a lovely natured dog who is bright alert and happy. His weight is good and he is
able to locomote around unaided. He walks 2x 20 mins. Has access to a garden and the
slippery floors are matted inside.
Gait Analysis:
Able to locomote freely around the space
Preferred to lie that sit or stand
Laterally places hindlimbs
Lacking flexion and controlled placement
Knuckling on occasion when stood bilaterally
Postural Evaluation:
Mild kyphosis noted in the lumbar spine. Changes in coat presentation from thoracic to
lumbar region. Wide stance globally.
Muscular Evaluation:
Neck tone was normal, mildly increased reactivity over serratus ventralis and latissimus
dorsi, Spasming and reactive T7-T12. Reduced muscle tone in hindlimbs especially
quadriceps and gracilis. Range of motion was good, limited right hip extension.
Neurological Evaluation:
Cranial nerves – in tact
Forelimb withdrawl response and knuckline respoinse – Normal
Hindlimb withdrawl reflex – Present but weaker LH
Knuckling – Failed to replace within 3 seconds bilaterally with hindlimbs.
