Physiotherapist report – Luna Austin
June 2021
Subjective: Luna had a stumble on a walk recently, recovered fine and no
issues the day after. Took it easy in terms of walking and exercise
until Owner saw me. Occasional intermittent hop with RH. Not seen today,
marginally shifting weight to the LH more than usual but extremely
slight. Good weight and attitude.
Gait: Very good stride length and propulsion. Spinal flexion is good
left to right when weaving round obstacles and turning. Slight increased
fore-limb loading. Could increase ground clearance slightly. Straight
moving and sitting posture very good, straight and evenly flexes both
stifles.
Objective: Marginal reluctance to flex the right stifle today, no
crepitus or restrictions to range of motion in any joints. Good full
range of motion in all joints. Sartorius bilaterally hypertonic, biceps
femoris hypotrophic, some trigger points near the anticlinal vertebrae.
Range of motion: Forelimb protraction and retraction was good, Hind-limb
range of motion is good. Active hip extension saw visible spasming in
sacral region. Focus is ab/adduction of the hind-limbs to improve medial
thigh recruitment.
Action:
Massage, LASER, passive ROM, and controlled exercises .
- Sit to stands 20 a day, square and slow
- Stretches under forelimbs to flex spine and increase range of motion
- Lateral stretches
- Poleswork to increase balance, stride height and strength
