Beryl– Notes and Exercise
Recommendation
30-4-25
Subjective: Recently been to sommerford on a ride and rider fall due to girth issue. Beryl is bright
and alert in herself, eating and toileting normally. Body condition 6/9. No issues reported in terms of
performance.
Gait assessment –In walk Beryl is straight moving with the forelimbs and this looks to have
improved since the last visit. Her foot balance is good and front shoes are in good repair. In the
hindlimbs there is increased pelvic excursion on the right hand-side indicating a mild lameness of the
right hindlimb. Base wide movement with hindlimbs, lateral circumduction both hindlimbs in walk.
Limited tarsal flexion in the hindlimbs. Tracks up bilaterally with both hindlimbs and lands well on all
four feet. From caudal view ribcage is held left and head to the right with increased pelvic motion to
the right.
Palpation - Reduced neck mobility to the right, improved from last visit. Increased tension around
poll and forelimb retractor muscles around her shoulders. Spinal range of motion reduced in dorsiflexion. Pelvic tilts limited but achieved. Tends to hold pelvis in flexion and resist extension. Lumbar
region showing spasming and trigger points. Hip holds were not tolerated well but aided release.
Slightly dropped back and weak epaxials. Limited hindlimb retraction ability bilaterally and hindlimb
protraction.
