HORSES TO HOUNDS PHYSIOTHERAPY
REPORT
Re: Dotty Blackhurst
Subjective: Dotty recently has hindlimb shoes on due to being sensitive over
rough ground and wanting to do increased work. Saddle check is up to date.
Looks more correctly developed in her splenius and less reliant on her
brachiocephalicus - posture is looking more balanced and uphill.
Gait: Straight moving in walk - narrow chest and narrow movement with
forelimbs and narrow with hindlimbs. Left hindlimb is externally rotated (toe
out, hock in, stifle out and hip in). Reduced pelvic swing bilaterally, Stilted and
extended lower back in walk and lack of middle gluteal muscle. Marginally more
muscle on the right hindlimb. Reduced flexion right hindlimb (Stifle and tarsus),
increased tuber coxae excursion left hind showing mild lameness 1/10. Fluid
and more balanced in trot. Owner noticed canter is improving, still occasionally
takes the wrong lead in canter. On tight turns reluctant to rotate right forelimb.
Crosses well - proprioception is good. Braced neck and back.
Main palpation findings Hypertonicity base of the neck more on the right hand
side. Bracing triceps and back with reactive pecs on the right side. Lumbar
epaxials in spasm and hindlimb retraction difficult. Improvements have been
made to quadriceps, biceps femoris and TFL bilaterally, still less mass left stifle.
Once loosened the pelvis showed good range of motion.
