Patient Name: Joey
Joey was seen following veterinary referral. He has recently had a
splenectomy. There was a 3.5cm difference in circumference of the hindlimb muscle mass
and audible crepitus from both hindlimbs when locomoting. This is narrowed down more
to Joeys hip joints. Joey is weight-bearing on his left hindlimb well and is looking more
stable in his stifle joints.
Subjective
During routine walking, no scuffing, dragging or issues immediately seen
In sit, the left hindlimb is placed laterally – improved from initial visit
Lack of musculature around the spine and left hindlimb
Audible clicking on rising from sit
Reduced gluteal on left hindlimb
Objective: Gait assessment shows Joey moves straight and has a good rhythm when
walking. His hindlimbs are restricted in their range of movement and his stride length is
decreased in both hindlimbs alongside decreased spinal mobility. Turning on a circle shows
instability and more so on the left circle
Physical Examination Findings:
o Left hind-limb Sartorius and quadriceps tenderness and slight contraction.
o Right hind-limb has increased muscle mass and tone
o Bilateral latissimus dorsi reactivity due to compensation
o Mild scoliosis of the lumbar spine
Range of Motion (ROM):
o Forelimbs: No issues, mildly resented forelimb protraction
o Hindlimbs: audible clicking.
