Physiotherapy Report – Initial Notes and Exercises
Subjective:
Star has had 5 weeks off due to a subsolar abscess and has just had her shoe back on to
return to work. She will be looking at building some muscle back up and aiding with a
sunken hindgut. Her weight is good and pain scoring chart is discussed incase of a flare.
Objective:
Reduced muscle tone globally – Need to work on toning up the muscles that have
reduced in size and tone during rest
Joint stiffness in the forelimbs and splaying – Shoes are working to correct arthritis
strain in forelimbs, work to be done to offload the forelimbs
Hindlimb stiffness – lacking joint mobility and stride length with hindlimbs, more so
with the right hindlimb.
Needs more stability in stifles and through pelvis
Gait Assessment:
Walk: Right pelvic drop, narrow behind, tracks up until turning, stilted on the turn.
Trot: Stilted and lacking in impulsion with hindlimbs, crosses over the midline and
lacks momentum.
Hindlimb movement: Narrow movement with both hindlimbs, indicating reduced
stride width and possible instability or discomfort proximally.
