Patient Name: Joey
Joey was seen following veterinary referral. He is awaiting a splenectomy
and has an issue with his cruciate in his left hindlimb. There was a 3.5cm difference in
clucumference of the hindlimb muscle mass and audible crepitus from both hindlimbs
when locomoting. Joey has been toe-touching the floor and now we are looking to plan
his progress to weight bearing the foot.
Subjective
During routine walking, no scuffing, dragging or issues immediately seen
In sit, the left hindlimb is placed laterally
Lack of musculature around the spine and left hindlimb
Objective: Gait assessment shows Ruby moves straight and has a good rhythm when
walking. Her hindlimbs are restricted in their range of movement and her stride length is
decreased in both hindlimbs. Turning on a circle shows patella instability and more so on the
right hindlimb.
Physical Examination Findings:
o Left hind-limb Sartorius and quadriceps tenderness and slight contraction.
o Right hind-limb has increased muscle mass and tone
o Left hind-limb shows hesitation to bear weight
o Bilateral latissimus dorsi reactivity due to compensation
o Mild scoliosis of the lumbar spine
Range of Motion (ROM):
o Forelimbs: No issues, mildly resented forelimb protraction
o Hindlimbs: audible clicking. Left patella in flexion
