Salvadore
25/2/25
Salvadore was seen for an initial assessment and check up. He is a nervous horse with a
history of being in a riding school. His saddle wasa not suitable and looked narrow and had
bolted on thigh rolls which will need attention from a saddle fitter for a new one.
Gait assessment – Walk: Even pelvic motion, narrow base stance and movements.Level
foot placement with the hindlimbs. In walk the left forelimb had a valgus position from the
fetlock and was placed medially. Very close in fromt and lacked abduction.
Trot:Trotting was fluid and forward. Elevated head carriage.
Turn: Turning showed good hindlimb proprioception, placement, and foot height.
Lunge: Happy and forward in walk and trot, rushed and visible bracing through the neck and
back (flight or flight response). In canter will buck initially until pelvic area is warmed up and
then settled down. Head and neck consistently elevated in the canter.
Palpation –Very reactive to neck palpation and shoulder initially. Worried and nervous with
increased muscle tone and tension.Neck mobility in active range looked good but manual
assessment was resented. Serratus area around girth was reactive and tender and limiting
forelimb protraction. Very mild tension in back but increased with mental stress levels.
