Initial Consult – Daphne M
Daphne was referred for back pain following veterinary referral. She has a history of cardiac
issues and skin irritation. She has been on rest for a while due to concerns over cause of the
back pain. No stairs or jumping as Daphne is limited by stair gates to certain rooms. Lost
some weight but is still of a good body condition.
Gait Analysis:
No issues walking, getting up or down and turning
Mild cranially loading
Left hindlimb slightly toe out
Muscular Evaluation: Hypertonic shoulder musculature was seen (mild). Latissimus dorsi
restricting forelimb protraction (mild). Trigger points seen in lumbar region on the left side
of the back and mid thoracic region on the right. No outwardly painful signs seen. Mild lack
of spinal flexibility observed – could be due to muscular spasm.
Functional Evaluation: Sit quality is good and square. Rising shows good utilisation of both
hindlimbs. Neurological reflexes present in both limbs.
ROM: Head and neck good. Spinal ROM was good laterally, dorsi-flexion was reduced in
thoracic region mildly. Lateral flexion to the left mildly restricted.
Plan: Work to strengthen global musculature and reduced back spasming and trigger points.
If issue persists beyond baseline , refer back for evaluation.
