Dandy– Exercise Prescription
19-02-25
Subjective: Dandy has been progressing well with ridden work, his foot balance and shoes
look good and he is increasing in weight. Recent episode where he escaped from the field
and was lame the day after. Owner worried about damage from this. Recently had a lesson
and working well.
Static: Close standing with forelimbs and hindlimbs. Narrow with hindlimbs, elevated head
and neck and slight dipping of the back. Pelvis more level than previously seen.
Gait: In walk forelimbs track straight and have good landing pattern. Hugely improved
hindlimb function than previous assessment. Musculature is returning to the hindlimbs. No
rotation seen from hindlimbs but some offloading of the left hindlimb was seen via a hip
hike. This settled down and was less present in the trot. Turning was stilted and lacks fluidity
in the neck bend and foot placement with hindlimbs.
Palpation: Very reactive spasming lumbar region and into hip flexors, reactive with hip
holds. Hamstrings over developed and quadriceps under developed. Needs work on
hindlimb engagement (improved from first visit). Spinal topline improved. Trapezius building
and looks better.
Advise: Continue with lessons working on lengthening the neck and mobilising the neck.
