Physiotherapist report – Luna Austin
May 2021
Subjective: Luna has been progressing well, building muscle and only an
occasional hop witnessed after massage/manipulation but not prolonged
for more than 2-3 strides. Very straight sit posture. Good weight and
body condition.
Gait: Very good stride length and propulsion. Marginally weight shifting
to the LH. Hopping hind-limbs is good to the left, markedly slower when
hopping to the right. Spinal flexion is good left to right when weaving
round obstacles and turning. Slight increased forelimb loading.
Objective: Marginal reluctance to flex the right stifle today, no
crepitus or restrictions to range of motion in any joints. Good full
range and flexion and extension are normal. Bilateral
quadriceps/sartorius hypertonicity (mild), some lumbar trigger points
more so on the left side. Hip extension resented slightly, improved with
easing of muscle tone.
Range of motion: Forelimb protraction and retraction was good, Hind-limb
range of motion is good. Active hip extension saw visible spasming in
sacral region, less than previous visit. Focus is ab/adduction of the
hind-limbs to improve hopping ability and medial thigh recruitment.
Action: Massage, LASER, passive ROM, and controlled exercises .
- Sit to stands 20 a day, square and slow
- Stretches under forelimbs to flex spine and increase range of motion
- Forelimb raises to gently shift balance to hindlimbs
- Polework (over and weave sideways)
