Silver
10/12/24
Silver was seen for her initial consultation on 10/12/24. Recent teeth check and saddle fitter
has come out due to poorly fitted saddle previously. Instructor recommended assessment
based of Silvers ridden style and hollowed back when working. The aims are to improve
muscle tone and athletic ability.
Gait assessment – Walk: Marginally more pelvic drop to the right hand side. Tail held to the
left. In walk there was an external rotation of the left hindlimb from the tarsus and also
medial placement of this limb. Tracking up was good. Narrow movement in front with
lateral landing on the right forelimb.
Trot:Trotting was fluid and forward. Bilateral toe-drag with the hindlimbs and reduced
flexion in the hindlimbs. Braced back.
Turn: Turning showed good hindlimb proprioception, placement, and foot height. Timing
was good. Neck looked stiff during turning, back showed visible tension.
Lunge: Happy and forward in walk and trot, canter mildly resented with ears back and eyes
narrowed. Good rhythm in the gaits. Right canter shows weakness of the right hind and its
ability to push from the ground.
Palpation –Increased tension in thoracolumbar fascia, more on the right hand side. Trigger
points extending into lumbar area. Spine in extension and braced. TMJ audibly clicking right
side with reduced masseter bulk on this side (may be causing head tilt) – teeth have been
done recently so may need time to adjust. Supraorbital fat pad more pronounced on this
side. Neck lateral movement poor both directions but worse right side. C3-5 restricted most.
Hygroma on the cranial aspect of the left fetlock. Also slightly back at the knee on this limb.
Topline requires work and advise saddle check again in 6 months after the longissimus
muscle has developed more. Tight gracilis left hindlimb.
Spinal range of motion was good following treatment, the wither region lacked rounding but
will develop over time.
