Rick Physio Notes and Exercises
21/11/24
Rick was seen 21/11/24 for an initial assessment. His history includes a tooth abscess which is
resolved but leaves Rick headshy and sensitive. His weifght is good, overall body muscling could be
improved. Saddle was checked and is a little wide over the shoulders, tips back very mildly and
moves slightly in the trot, clearance and straightness is good. His feet are due for the farrier and
may contribute to the fact Rick is a little reluctant to go forwards.
Gait: Even pelvic drop when walking away. Straight moving and good rhythm in the walk, a little
fidgety with head positioning and tilts head and neck. Good on the turns and shows good rhythm,
balance, back mobility and foot placement. Neck bend is slightly braced.
Palpation: No residual pain in jaw, neck slightly high in tone on the right hand side. Right extensor
carpi radialis muscle (on forearm) is reduced in muscle bulk and needs improving to give more
support to this leg. Reluctant to pick feet. Back is good with no tender areas seen, needs more
muscle and lift over the back. Gluteals are higher in tone and over used, when hip holds were done
spasming was seen which means Ricks pelvis is locking and cannot flex or extend due to muscle
restrictions. The exercises will help with this.
Aim:
Reduce hip tension and stiffness
Improve limb flexion and strength
