Veterinarian: Valentines Castleton
Subjective
- Patient previously treated for a left shoulder injury, now recovered.
- Owner reports concerns regarding right shoulder function and appearance.
- Veterinary Notes showing limited shoulder extension and muscle loss
- Home adaptations and routine discussed
- Completely NWB on right forelimb
Objective
- Significant muscle atrophy observed in the supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscle groups on the
right side.
- Right shoulder appears thickened and enlarged.
- Right brachiocephalicus muscle is hypertonic.
- Left latissimus dorsi muscle is reactive and exhibiting spasms.
- Left digits and foot flattened due to overload of body weight
- Bilateral lower back shows kyphotic posture and reactivity with the spine laterally flexed left.
- Hindlimbs positioned in a wide stance.
- Full range of motion in the left shoulder; right shoulder extension restricted by 50%.
- Crepitus noted on full flexion of the right elbow.
- Initially, the right forelimb was 10 cm off the ground, which improved to 3 cm by the end of the
session.
Plan
- Continue with targeted physiotherapy interventions focusing on strengthening the right shoulder
muscles (supraspinatus and infraspinatus).
- Incorporate stretching and relaxation techniques for the hypertonic right brachiocephalicus and
spasming left latissimus dorsi.
- Implement exercises and heat packs to improve posture and reduce kyphotic stance.
- Monitor and reassess range of motion and forelimb elevation in subsequent sessions.
- Owner aware of pain relief options and to use if needed to allow for increased comfort
