Luna Physio Notes and Exercises

Luna was seen 24/10/24 for a follow up physio assessment. Luna has progressed well and some of
the issues from last visit have improved. Notable her ability to reach forward with her forelimbs is
much better and her body is less tense overall.
Gait: Right side pelvic drop in walk (mild), increased pelvic swing laterally to both sides. Right side
reduced stifle and tarsal flexion. Right hind not toe scuffing today. Flat foot placement in all limbs.
Slight undertrack right hindlimb. Reduced forelimb stride length both forelimbs.
In trot lateral circumduction both hindlimbs and reduced flexion. Toe in left forelimb in trot –
improved after physio and stretches.
Palpation: Some tension and mild trigger points lumbar region on both sides. Reduced shoulder
protraction left forelimb, but large stretch today was able to release this. Spinal dorsi-flexion
reduced but improved from last visit, able to get some wither lift today and some visible movement,
Pelvis rounded and extension was good and able to be maintained for a few seconds. Still showing
weakness in stifles.
Aim:
Reduce back tension and stiffness
Increase suppleness in neck and back
Improve hindlimb flexion and strength
Ideally needs one full day off a week to allow muscles to rest. If smaller children are wishing to
ride, the weaves, letters exercise or pole walks will be good for a 30 minute session. This would
count as her second day off during the week. Alternatively the smaller children can take Luna for a
hack/walk which would be good for Luna to experience different terrain and hills.
