Patient Name: Milo
Date: 23/10/24
Milo was seen on the 23rd October 2024. He was alert and bright and able
to locomote unassisted. Previous diagnosis of hip dysplasia and luxating patella. Able to
walk but sporadic as sometimes does not want too, has slowed down recently and Owner
looking for pain relief and comfort improvement.
S: Subjective
Owner reports Milo has been hesitant to bear weight on the right hind-limb and
shows reluctance during walks.
Milo prefers to sit with the right hind-limb held laterally during sitting and will sit
with increased frequency when locomoting around.
O: Objective
Physical Examination Findings:
o Limited forelimb protraction bilaterally observed during gait assessment.
o Bilateral hindlimb lateral circumduction during walk.
o Nail wear is fine on both hind-limbs, no evidence of scuffing was noted.
o Lower back pain and tenderness
o Right hindlimb Sartorius and quadriceps tenderness and slight contraction.
o Global reduction of muscle mass noted, of particular note the hamstring
group bilaterally.
o Right hind-limb shows hesitation to bear weight; the dog appears to favor the
left limb during movement as shown by foot flattening and weight felt
through each hindlimb on raising.
Range of Motion (ROM):
o Forelimbs: Reduced protraction noted.
o Hindlimbs: Limited retraction on the right hindlimb, within normal limits on
the left.
A: Assessment
Milo displays signs of discomfort and altered gait mechanics due to bilateral luxating
patella and muscular atrophy.
The hesitation to bear weight on the right hindlimb, combined with the altered sit
posture, suggests potential pain and instability in that limb, likely contributing to the
overall reduction in mobility.
The global reduction of muscle mass indicates a need for targeted rehabilitation to
strengthen and stabilize the affected limbs.
