Anushka – Exercise Prescription and Notes

Subjective: Anushka has made good progress since my last visit in terms of her palpation
findings, her pelvis swing and drop is more level that the last session and her right hindlimb
is also bearing more weight. Her canter transitions on the lunge are still stilted and showing
the same mild right hindlimb lameness. Overweight BCS 6.5/9. Posture improved following
session and hindlimbs less camped out.
Gait: straight moving all limbs. Right forelimb toe in (mild) Undertracks slightly left hind.
Right hind toe drag in trot, not seen in walk.
On the lunge head and neck held outside bend consistently. Canter transition stilted, ears
back and back tense and dropped with minimal movement. Looks in better balance than last
visit and left forelimb lameness has cleared.
Circling, neck bend looks good, stiff laterally, foot placement is clumsy, foot flight is good,
timing is outside usual 4 beat rhythm. Back up is much improved.
Main palpation findings: Increased tension shoulders and extensors in forelimbs from
increased load bearing – hugely improved since last visit. Hypotrophic thoracic epaxials and
reactive trigger points and spasming into lumbar region, left side showed mild tracking from
gluteal tongue into gluteal muscle causing trigger points in the thoracic region. The right
side showed a longer patterns of spasming and trigger points from lumbar region into
thoracic epaxials.
Range of motion: Neck good, Spinal range of motion attempted uncomfortable with
thoracic lift, pelvic tilts and lumbar lift was very good following ultrasound treatment.
Do the following Exercises each day : stretches, hip holds, back up
Exercises below, aim for 3/4x a week 30 minute sessions. Heat pad and massage pad will
be useful. Long reining will be much better than lunging, example plan is at the end.
