Jester– Exercise Prescription
30/09/24
First session today. Underweight – puts on more weight in winter with additional feeds.
Requires mash due to dentition. In walk the left hindlimb has reduced tarsal flexion and
extension, increased use of gluteals to stabilise the pelvis and reduced stifle motion. Right
hindlimb lands laterally on the hoof wall, forelimbs track narrow and left forelimb also has
lateral landing pattern. Good rhythm and timing in the walk and on the turn.
Palpation – Reduced tone in global musculature except the lumbars and gluteals which are
hypertonic. Increased tone left superficial pectoral. Right serratus was reactive and
restrictive to limb movement. Spinal motion was not done. Gentle passive range of motion
and stretching was done on all limbs, reluctant on right hindlimb. Reduced hamstring tone
and muscle mass, aim to increase stability through gently weight shifting exercises.
Aim: Improve core tone and and maintain suppleness.
Instead of haynet, elevate
the mash bucket
