Luna Physio Notes and Exercises

Luna was seen 24/9/24 for her initial physio assessment. She was purchased 8 weeks prior, limited
knowledge regarding history. Luna is an inquisitive and bright horse. Good weight and condition.
Her feet are unshod and up to date with saddle and vet.
Gait: Right side pelvic drop in walk, increased pelvic swing laterally to both sides and a reduced
pelvic motion through the lower back. Left hindlimb reduced stifle and tarsal flexion, right side also
reduced stifle and tarsal flexion. Lowered flight arc bilaterally with forelimbs. Right hind intermittent
toe scuffing. Flat foot placement in all limbs. Slight undertrack right hindlimb. Reduced forelimb
stride length both forelimbs.
In trot lateral circumduction both hindlimbs and reduced flexion. Toe in left forelimb in trot. Very
mild right hind lameness in trot seen throough lack of pelvic motion.
Palpation: Global hypertonicity. Overdeveloped base of the neck and left shoulder. Triggerpoints
and reactivity lumbar region mild on both sides. Reduced shoulder protraction left forelimb. Right
forelimb accessory carpal was restricted. Reluctant to pick hindlimbs and retraction was difficult.
Spinal dorsi-flexion reduced, improved when tension in back muscles was released. Pelvis rounded
and extension was good but not maintained.
Aim:
Reduce back tension and stiffness
Increase suppleness in neck and back
Improve hindlimb flexion and strength
