Letty– Exercises and Physio Notes
19/09/24
Letty was seen 19/9/24 for initial physiotherapy session after coming back from breaking
livery. The aim is to return back now teeth and ulcer treatment is finished.
Gait: Big moving horse with active hindlimbs, some strain patterns interminnently seen
where over extension of the hindlimb fetlocks is seen in walk/trot. Advise to monitor this to
avoid damage to tendons moving forwards – may be linked to hindlimb weakness at this
stage. Narrow interminntently with hindlimbs and forelimbs. Straight limb placement and
flight arc in the forelimbs, hindlimbs can deviate laterally oppose to flexing especially right
hindlimb. Tracks up.
Palpation: Large well muscular neck and shoulders, tension and bracing seen in parotid
space and reluctant to mobilise poll area, nuchal ligament is tight suggesting tension in
dorsal line. Obvious break in topline at base of withers (softenend after treatment) due to
longissimus muscle spasming and tension bilaterally along the spine. Lateral cervical motion
could be improved when work begins, stretches will aid this. Weak gluteals and extended
pelvis, pelvic motion is good dorsi flexion of the back is reduced.
Aims: Increase back mobility, rebalance posture, engage gluteals
