Millie Hill- Physiotherapy Notes – 16/9/24
Millie was seen for her follow-up session after Hansen type 1 IVDD surgery.
The surgical site wound is closed and healed, coiat growth is slow but has
made progress today. Increased locomotor abilities in the house from last
session. Toiletting normally and becoming more curious and bright.
Gait: Millie is still showing ataxia bilaterally in the hindlimbs with delayed paw
replacement bilaterally. Distal limb joints are capable of stance posture, hips
and stifles are still weaker and slowly sink on stance – able to hold more today
and better with paw encouragement onto a surface to really engage hindlimbs.
Able to walk well on grass or outside – advised 15min walks 2x a day – this still
stands as exercises have got harder, may be able to increase walking if Millie
does not fatigue.
Palpation: Bilateral hindlimbs are hypotrophic and hypotonic, hip extension is
restricted today, alight rounding of the back and so this should be aided by
stretching and exercises to strengthen the hindlimbs and carry the weight
more evenly. Caudal boarder latissimus dorsi reactive, spasming and
overworked due to cranial loading, advised massage and heat to aid resolve.
Aim: Improve overall balance, muscle strength and protect the opposing
limbs.
