Tecwyn - Physiotherapy
11/09/24
Tecwyn was seen on 11/9/24 for physiotherapy assessment after having an
episode resulting in paralysis of the hindlimbs. Tecwyn is alert and bright.
Mobility: Laterally recumbent and able to move head and neck well, some
forelimb movement elicited. Reflexes in hindlimbs are present and withdrawl
reflex was seen in both hindlimbs. Deep pain not assessed as Tecwyn is alert to
touch on hindlimbs. Joints have good range of motion and do not appear in
any spastic state.
Tone and Muscle: Latissimus dorsi bilaterally was reactive from excess
forelimb use. Back feels overall lacking flexibility but difficult to fully assess,
braced and no active trigger points or spasming seen. Several large masses in
various regions of the body will make mobility difficult due to weight.
Points to consider
Use of baby socks (with grips) on Tecwyns feet to prevent sores or
abrasions, adhesive plaster or duct tape can be used round the top to
keep them up
Heat packs can be used 10 mins max to help shoulders and back (see
image)
Use towel or blanket with large surface area to aid Tecwyn standing then
use the harness when upright.
Monitor your dog’s skin for redness, excess moisture, hair loss or odor,
especially the areas in regular contact with diapers, harnesses, or any
other accessories – this can indicate urine scalds or bed sores. These can
cause infections so monitor daily.
