Zander – Exercise Prescription
5/8/24
Zander was seen for his initial consult on 5/8/24. He is alert and in good body condition score
5.5/9. History shows previous fracture and injuries to the tuber coxaeand tuber sacrale and a
recent injury to his eye. Veterinary advice moving forward was local medication and corrective
shoeing. Feet are well balanced – note top assess heel bulbs in hindlimbs to ensure they are well
supported. This will stabilise the hind-limbs, suspensories and aid in alleviating the lower back
spasming.
Gait assessment showed external rotation right hind more so than left, tail carriage left, tuber
sacrale distinctly lowered on left hindlimb contact showing off-loading in right hindlimb contact.
Increased tuber coxae drop right side with cranial pull. Head right. Tracks up, even
metacarpalphalangeal drop.
Visible lateral neck bracing seen over each vertebral body showing more lateral support is needed
in the neck. Narrow chest (conformation) with good straight limbs and straight landing pattern
observed all –round initially on the hard. On the soft surface increased right hindlimb external
rotation and inward stifle rotation was seen suggesting instability of the hip on this side and lack
of stable stance phase and propulsion. Lack of gluteal and hindlimb medial and lateral
musculature would also echo this. Bracing in the cutaneous omobrachialis (fly twitch muscle)
bilaterally (both sides), indicates bracing of the forelimbs.
Longissimus thoracis and lumborum spasming, reactive and trigger points found, left side palpable
adhesions in the fascia and along fascial boarders. Weak longissimus with hypotrophy and
hypotonicity.
