Cosmo- Physiotherapy Notes
25/07/24
Cosmo was seen 25/7/24 for an initial physio consult. Lovely friendly dog. Cosmo has a
complex history of tumour removal and arthritis diagnosed in many joints. He currently
walks 20 min 2x a day which is a good amount but may need altering with the addition of
his exercises and if any tow scuffing occurs (see walking planner).
Gait is stilted and right elbow shows outward rotation. Cranially loading posture with alot
of weight on the front legs and shoulders. Nails worn on right forelimb with abrasion on
dorsal aspect of the digits.
Right forelimb shows restricted elbow flexion (40%) and carpal restriction round the acc.
Carpal joint. Mass (2cm) palpated in right armpit, avoided manipulations in this area.
Right shoulder hypertonic in particular triceps – tension needed as shoulder and carpus is
acting to flex the limb. Bilaterally the latissimus dorsi (digging muscle) is over developed
and overworked due to lack of hindlimb engagement. Left forelimb, mild joint restrictions
but no crepitus felt.
Right tarsus shows soft swelling/mass around the joint (medial) but does not impede
function directly. Weaker on the right hind in stance and will slowly abduct this limb
outwards – also seen in sit posture. Poor spinal ROM – aim to improve.
Aim: Improve balance, improve joint range of motion (ROM) and overall pain and quality of life.
