Re: Alfie (Whippet)
23/7/24
Alfie was referred following a puncture wound and injury to his shoulder and back pain found when
he went to visit his local veterinarian.
Subjective: Alfie settled very well again and preferred his right side to be touched while mildly
guarding the left side. His walks are 1-2 hours on lead for the most part and some off-lead sniffing if
quiet, owner noticed that sometimes Alfie moves with a stilted forelimb gait, I have asked to
monitor if this is downhill as he may be bracing his shoulders and this may be a sign of fatigue
setting in.
Gait: No obvious limping or deviations observed, no rotation of the carpus is seen on the visit today
so no need for any bracing or supports here. Still preferring to off-load the left forelimb slightly.
Palpation – Left shoulder spasming with reduced muscle mass. Puncture wound healed over with
small amount of scar tissue under the surface. Left elbow flexion was restricted as was left shoulder
extension. Elicited spasming on the lateral shoulder. Left lumbar region of the back spasming but
improved from last visit.
Hip mobility looked to have increased since last session. Right gastrocnemius (calf) reactive and
increased in tone.
Lateral bend improved since last visit.
