Nash–
11/4/24
Nash was seen today, owner has fractured ankle and so is limited in ability to
ride/handle. Nash may be sent on livery for schooling and so an assessment
today had that in mind to relay information on what and where we might need
assistance with.
Overall Nash is once again looking well with increased muscle and tone
throughout. Focus is now on maintaining weight and fitness alongside
improving posture and strength.
Posture showed unlevel camped under posture in the hindlimbs with the right
hind held in protracton. Toe out behind and low heels with exaggerated
plantar angle in the hindlimbs.
Gait assessment – Nash travelled on two tracks in walk and trot. Base narrow
in both gaits in-front and behind. Increased pelvic rotation to the left, no
discrepancy in vertical motion. Unstable pelvis in stance and on tight ciricles.
Tight circle right had reduced limb streide and timing was stilted.
Palpation –Spinal range of motion reduced in dorsi-flexion more noticeable
over thoracic region –Back muscles have improved and there is less sensitivity
and pain around rib heads than last visit. Left lat dorsi is bunched around left
shoulder. Hypotrophy thoracic region. Lumbar extensions resented and painful
(links with owners difficulty cantering on correct lead). Overdeveloped
hamstrings to make up for lacking quadriceps (see tail pull exercise)
